In this year’s Year of Values, we are currently still in the warm and safe hands of “Inspire Growth” and I have already described how important sustainable growth is for a company these days. But the value has so much more to offer – for example, we are also focusing on the personal development of our employees. This can consist of specific further education and training if an employee wants to grow professionally. Or further training that is not aimed at faster typing of even more colorful numbers and letters, but rather at the mind and motivation of employees. After all, you can also grow as a person. Huh?
After all, you want to remain resilient and stable as you continue to climb the various ladders of life. Whether it’s career, family or sports and hobbies – demands increase everywhere as life goes on and the stress, or at least the perception of it, can be overwhelming. Fortunately, you can do something to prevent this. And you can even do something when the baby has already fallen into the well. Coaching could help!

Was ist Coaching?

Coaching is a process that aims to support individuals in finding their own solutions to professional and personal challenges. The focus is on the coachee – the person being coached. That’s you in this example Unlike in training or mentoring, the coach does not provide ready-made solutions, but guides the coachee through targeted questions and structured dialog to find their own answers.
The main task of a coach is to support the coachee in finding personal solutions. In the corporate context, this often involves work-related issues, which can, however, quickly spill over into the personal sphere. Coaching offers a protected space in which these issues can be explored without the need for a strict separation between professional and personal concerns. This leads to a diverse range of topics that can be dealt with in coaching sessions.

How do you recognize a good coach?

A successful coach is characterized by certain core competencies: Openness, empathy, curiosity and impartiality. These qualities are essential in order to understand and effectively support the coachee. The specific techniques and methods of coaching are taught in the training, but the foundation is always trust between coach and coachee. Discretion and confidentiality are essential to create a safe and productive coaching environment.
In day-to-day coaching, flexibility and the ability to adapt to the needs and emotions of the coachee are paramount. A session can rarely be prepared in detail, as topics often arise spontaneously. Emotional moments can be a challenge as they touch on profound personal aspects. Here it is important to remain professional as a coach and at the same time protect yourself by seeking exchanges with other coaches and taking care of your own mental health.

Personal growth

Coaching makes a significant contribution to personal development by promoting self-reflection and self-confidence. A coach helps to identify the coachee’s true goals and motivations. This is often done by asking targeted questions that make the coachee think and can trigger emotional reactions. These emotional moments are often the key to profound insights and change.
In contrast to training, which follows a fixed framework and teaches specific skills, and mentoring, where an experienced mentor passes on certain knowledge and experience, coaching focuses on helping the coachee to find their own solutions. The coach does not offer a ready-made path, but supports the coachee in discovering and following their own path.

Coaching in the company

A well-implemented coaching culture in companies can significantly improve organizational performance. Self-reflection and personal development are not only important for the individual well-being of employees. They also contribute to the overall performance and success of the company. Coaching can help to increase employee satisfaction and motivation, which has a positive impact on the entire organization.
A successful example from practice shows that every coaching session is successful if the coachee takes something away with them. These sessions often have a lasting effect and lead to changes in everyday life that are positive in the long term. The first step towards change often begins with the coachee thinking about the coaching session in problematic situations and trying out new approaches. (Listen to the podcast with Micha, in which she talks in detail about her work as a coach).

The future of coaching

Technology is playing an increasing role in modern coaching, especially in hybrid or online sessions. Although face-to-face meetings are preferred due to body language and non-verbal communication, virtual sessions offer flexibility and accessibility. However, it is important to use technology consciously and purposefully to minimize distractions and ensure the quality of the sessions.
Overall, coaching proves to be a valuable tool for personal development and improving organizational performance. It helps people to understand themselves better, define their goals more clearly and develop effective strategies to overcome challenges. Coaching provides a protected space where coachees feel safe and supported to find their own solutions and drive their personal and professional development.
