Further training at Phantasialand

Wild roller coaster rides and a colorful summer party – is this what continuing education in software development looks like? Absolutely! Because there are conferences that take place in Phantasialand! This year, Cloudland took place there for the first time. We were there with a total of 4 colleagues and listened to interesting presentations as well as the rollercoaster rides.

Training budget

But first things first. Every employee at virtual7 has a personal training budget. They are free to dispose of this as they wish, as long as they can argue that it will help them in their job. It can be used for training courses, online courses or even books. Or, as with us, for attending a conference.

In our specific case, a colleague posted the link to Cloudland in the internal Teams channel. The program looked very interesting, the price was right and the venue was of course particularly attractive: Phantasialand near Cologne. And so, after a brief discussion, we decided to invest part of our training budget.

What is Cloudland actually?

Cloudland is still a young conference for software development. As the name suggests, the focus is on the cloud and everything that goes with it. There were various theme days with the following content:

  • Container & Cloud
  • Microservices & Domain-driven Design
  • Ci/CD automation
  • DevOps / Methodology

And just like Javaland, it takes place in the beautiful Phantasialand.

Off to the pool before work

Phantasialand also has great themed hotels. And as we arrived the evening before, our first stop on arrival is the hotel pool.

The next day, however, it’s time to soak up knowledge and network. Interesting keynotes alternate with technical presentations on new tools and methodologies.

Our colleague Christoph Münch, together with a colleague Ralf Ernst from the Federal Employment Agency, also gave a humorous presentation on the topic of data center 5.8. With a twinkle in his eye, the presentation dealt with visionary topologies that also aroused the interest of the audience in the cloud environment.

Agile development, cloud and microservices in public administration?

We also eagerly awaited the presentation by Stefan Latuski, Chairman of the Management Board of the Federal Employment Agency’s IT system house. The IT system house is the operational IT service provider of the Federal Employment Agency and therefore one of the largest IT employers in the public sector. And an important customer for us in the cluster, where we are represented in many projects.

Stefan Latuski has shown that even a heavyweight in the public sector, such as the Federal Employment Agency, has an agile mindset. With him at the helm, the organization and its people can be encouraged to break new ground.

We look forward to supporting our projects with our expertise and our agile mindset. Together with our customers, we want to move people. The terms DevOps, microservice, private cloud and digitalization already accompany us here every day.

Our Highlights

Further training at Phantasialand – that speaks for itself. And even if there are still a few teething problems with the first edition, such as the provision of dinner, the highlights outweigh them. Above all, the visit to an on-site conference after the long corona break and the direct exchange with colleagues from the industry. Other highlights include presentations on smart home offices, the keynote speech by Stefan Latuski and, of course, the summer party that lasted late into the night – in the middle of Phantasialand.

Cloudland 2023

There will also be another Cloudland in 2023. From June 20 to 23, Phantasialand will once again host great lectures, wild rollercoaster rides and certainly a great party.

All information can be found on the official website: https://www.cloudland.org/

S3 bucket to touch and taste

One highlight still remains: An S3 Bucket to see, feel and taste:
